    How Cute!!!

I saw this today, and I just had to post it.

On 6/30/2011, Civil Twilight played at Rathskellar in Indianapolis, IN. During "Letters From The Sky," a couple becomes engaged.

This is one of the cutest things I've ever seen. And I compeltely love the band's reaction, especially Steve's.

    Weekly Roundup: 6/22-6/28

Sorry for the lack of posts last week, but I've been super busy, and I actually didn't get any new music. Shocker!

Anyway, here's what I got over the past week.

-Best of 2001-2009 - The Rasmus
-"Bittersweet" - Apocalyptica (f/ Ville Valo & Lauri Ylonen)
-"End of an Era" - Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls

Okay, confession. I didn't actually buy the entire "best of..." album. I looked it up, and there were only 2 songs on the compilation that I didn't have already ("Chill" and "October & April"), so I just bought them on iTunes.

I'm loving the sound. It's nice to hear her do a more uptempo song every once in a while.

    Concert Review: Mountain Jam 2011

This weekend, 6/2-6/5, was the seventh annual Mountain Jam Festival at Hunter Mountain. I had never been before, but my best friend Sam, her mom, and I went this year because Civil Twilight was playing. We only got passes for Sunday, and saw 7 bands.

The first band we saw was The Wiyos. They are a very quirky band with a vintage sound. A bunch of their songs were inspired by the Wizard of Oz. Not bad, but not one of my favorites of the day.
The second band up was Civil Twilight. Sam and I worked our way down so we were close to the stage, near Andrew (guitar). This was the best that I've seen them play. I've never seen Steve (lead singer, bass, keyboard) so animated. He was dancing around, talking to the crowd, and joking with Rich (drums) and Andrew. They started off a bit slow, but about halfway through, they really amped it up, and really got the crowd into it. Their new songs ("Fire Escape" and "High") sounded really good, and "High" was completely appropriate for the setting ;) Highlight of their set was "Teardrop." Steve stayed on the stage this time (he usually goes into the crowd), and I actually prefered it. This way, he was able to stay on stage and jam out with the rest of the band. "Letters..." was awesome, as usual, but I'm really glad they decided not to close with it. Their cover of "Immigrant Song" was phenomenal!! I've seen videos online, but never seen them play it live, and they did not disappoint. I still have chills from their set. Every time I see them, I think that there is no way for them to top themselves, but they do! Their setlist from the show (I'm fairly certain of the order, but I may have a few mistakes):

    Anybody Out There
    Soldier
    Fire Escape
    Trouble
    High
    Teardrop
    Letters From The Sky
    Immigrant Song

While we were eating lunch, we listened to Dawes. I had never heard of them before, but I really like them. I can't wait to get their album. Highlight of their set was their new song "Fire Away" which really got everyone jamming.

We saw a bit of Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros before heading over to another stage. Again, I was not familiar with thei music, but I really liked what little I heard. They were really laid back, and the lead singer spent a lot of time out in the crowd, singing. They also had amazing control over the crowd, getting everyone to sit down during one of their slower songs. I will have to check out more of their music.

Bobby Long was playing on a small acoustic stage. There were probably around 20-25 people watching him (including his girlfriend and her family). We originally went over to see him because he's hot and knows Robert Pattinson (shallow, I know), but he really impressed us. He sounded absolutely amazing. I loved the songs that he played, especially "Two Years Old" and "Who Have You Been Loving." He was also very entertaining between songs, telling stories, and using jokes as intros for the next song.

Preservation Hall Jazz Band was a nice break. It was nice to just sit back on the slope and listen to some awesome jazz music. Highlight was definitely when they got everyone to sing "You Are My Sunshine." So much fun!

Finally, we saw Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. I was only familiar with one of their songs ("Paris"), but I was blown away by their performance. I don't know how Grace did it, but she didn't stop moving/dancing/jumping/headbanging/singing the entire time they were one. It was crazy! She sounded amazing too. Girl can wail! Highlights are definitely "Paris (Oh La La)" "Nothing But the Water" and "Sugar."

Overall, it was one of the best days ever. I can't wait for next year. I'm definitely going back!

New Music Monday: The Civil Wars

This song isn't really "new" in terms of recently released, but its new to me, and I wanted to share since I can't stop listening to it. This is "Barton Hollow" by The Civil Wars.

I think I have a new favorite band....for the moment at least ;) I absolutely love their vibe. This song, especially the video reminds me so much of True Blood. Love it!

Album Review: Glee The Music, Volume 6

This is the 6th Glee soundtrack that has been released. It includes 18 songs from episodes 17-22 of season 2.

How much do I love when Jonathan Groff and Lea Michelle sing together? Hearing them sing together just brings me right back to Spring Awakening. They still have such amazing chemistry every time they sing together.

How is it that "For Good" didn't make the cut for this album? I do think that it should have been included instead of "Bella Notte." I don't hate "Bella Notte," but I do not think that it needed to be included on the soundtrack.

The original songs were pretty decent. I don't love the song that Charice (Vocal Adrenaline) sings, "As Long As Your There," but the New Directions songs were very good. I can't stop hitting the repeat button for the "Pretending" duet

I am missing a few other songs, namely "Back to Black," "All By Myself," and "Jar of Hearts," but I guess they can't include everything.

Highlights: "I Feel Pretty/Unpretty," "Rolling In The Deep," "Pretending," "Pure Imagination"

    Weekly Roundup: 5/18-5/24

Sorry for being MIA, but I've been busy. I promise to have reviews and a few other things out soon. But for today, yet another weekly roundup!

    • Mumford & Sons - Sigh No More

    • The Pretty Reckless - Light Me Up

    • Haley Reinhart - "You Oughta Know (live)"

    • Haley Reinhart - "Rhiannon (live)"

    • Haley Reinhart - "What is and What Should Never Be (live)"

    • Lauren Alaina - "If I Die Young (live)"

    • Glee Cast - "Happy Days are Here Again/Get Happy"

    • Glee Cast - "Friday"

    • Glee Cast - "I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance With You"

    • Glee: The Music, Volume 6

    • Adele - 21

    • Lady Gaga - Born This Way (special edition)

And now, I think I need to start working on that little thing called impulse control since, obviously I have none ;)

Like I said, reviews of the albums will be coming soon. I just need to give them another listen, or two before posting.

    Til next time!

    Weekly Roundup 5/11-5/17

Welcome to my new blog! I've been posting more and more about music in one of my other blogs, and I decided it was time to create one dedicated solely to music. I'll be including album/concert reviews, sharing new music, etc. Every Wednesday, I will post a Weekly Roundup of all the music I've collected throughout the previous week.

Here's what I've picked up in the past week:

    • "Earth Song (live)" - Haley Reinhart

    • "I Who Have Nothing (live)" - Haley Reinhart

    • "Bluebird" - Christina Perri

    • "Still Got Tonight" - Matthew Morrison

    • "Status Quo" - Darren Criss

    • "Gunpowder and Lead (live)" - Haley Reinhart & Lauren Alaina

Yeah, I'm a sucker for American Idol and, in case you didn't notice, Haley's my absolute favorite. I thought her performances last week were awesome, and had to have them.

The Christina Perri and Matthew Morrison songs were free singles on iTunes last week. I haven't listened to Christina's, but I'm pleasantly surprised by Matt Morrison's new song. I completely his first single, but this one is a definite step up.

I only found out about Darren's performance of "Status Quo" last week (I don't know what took me so long...) and had to have it. Anything Darren/Starkid gets instantly added to the library. :)

That's all for now. Til next time!
